Green wood is surprisingly heavy due to its high moisture content. This tool uses average green wood densities to give you a reliable weight estimate, which is crucial for ensuring your lifting and hauling equipment is up to the task, preventing accidents and damage.
The calculation is a direct multiplication of volume and density.
- Input Log Volume: Enter the log's total volume in cubic feet (ft³). You can get this from our Log Volume Calculator if needed.
- Select Wood Species: Choose the species of the log from the dropdown menu. This selects the appropriate green wood density.
- Calculate Weight: The calculator multiplies the volume by the species' density to find the total weight.
Weight (lbs) = Volume (ft³) × Green Density (lbs/ft³)
- Volume: The amount of three-dimensional space occupied by an object, in cubic feet.
- Density: The mass per unit of volume. For green logs, this is the weight of one cubic foot of freshly cut wood.
- Green Wood: Freshly cut wood that still contains a high percentage of its natural moisture.
